There are a few Mac programs I simply cannot live without. Some of them are free, some of them aren’t. But I highly recommend all of them! Trust me, I’ve tried a lot of Mac software, but these are definitely my favourites!

Read more to see what they are!

Wallet

Wallet is a program which stores information about you. Stuff like PIN numbers, passwords, Medicare numbers, etc. It stores anything and everything you want in it. But what makes Wallet truly useful and unique is its ability to encrypt the information using very strong, 128-bit AES encryption. In other words, no one is going to get to it in a hurry if they don’t know the password!

The killer feature of Wallet is the ability to make custom fields and forms. You aren’t restricted to pre-defined information types. For example, I have a bunch of encrypted backup files. Mostly archives of intellectual property I dont’t want anyone to see! I defined this as a information type and created a filename, password and contents field for it. Also useful is the password generator tool, so if you want to create a really secure password, its right on hand.

Things

Things is a new app which is still only in preview! Its a task management app which looks great and works really well. And if the promised features are developed, it’s going to be a great piece of software. I love the ability to assign “Team Mates” and simply drag tasks to them. Apparently in a future version you will be able to email the tasks to them too. Awesome!

This is an app which has a great interface AND is actually useful. Delicious Library - eat your heart out! In development by Cultured Code, Things is available now in preview form here.

AppFresh

Very simply, AppFresh keeps all of your software up to date. Its like Apple Software Update, but for your whole computer! Future versions will be able to check for Microsoft Office updates, but right now it can do just about every other app under the sun, including Apple and Adobe updates.

AppFresh will download, extract and install the programs for you - really makes like simpler! Its currently available as a free Development Preview from here.
